It’s Thanksgiving week here in the USA. Time to eat some turkey, watch some football, take a nap, and wish the women well as they head off to the shopping malls on Friday.
It’s also time to take stock of our lives, and appreciate the many blessings we all have.
I am going to be honest, this has been a tough year for me…
My 15 year old cat died. He was the very first pet I’ve ever owned.
Also, my dad committed suicide last April.
This isn’t something I say lightly, and I wasn’t even sure if I wanted to bring it up here in the blog. But there it is. My dad took his own life, and now he’s gone.
Yet, despite those losses, I know that my life is blessed. I have many things to truly be thankful for!
Here are some of the blessings I’m most thankful for (in no particular order):
- I have plenty to eat.
- I have a job.
- My car still runs.
- I’m in good health (except for that 220 cholesterol).
- My wife and daughter are both healthy.
- My low interest, fixed rate mortgage is in good standing.
- My wife finally let me buy a Nintendo Wii.
- I have friends and family who love me.
- My daughter brings joy into my heart each and every day.
- I have great neighbors, and live in a great town.
- I have a loving savior Jesus Christ who is always with me.
So while I’ve dealt with great sorrow this year, I also have many things that I can truly be thankful for. And while I’m still coping with those losses, this week I choose to focus on “life.”
I choose to focus on the blessings my God has given to me. I choose to focus on the love that my family gives me. Most of all, I choose to focus on the love I can give back to them.
Whether you’ve had a good or bad year, I encourage you to take time this week to count your blessings, and to be thankful for them.
With that, I wish all of you a Happy Thanksgiving! May God bless you and your families.
Oh, and enjoy those Thanksgiving football games!
