It’s never good when your kid gets sick with strep throat. It’s even worse when it happens over the holidays!
Yep, you guessed it. Olivia has strep throat.
She woke up Monday night (actually Tuesday morning around 12:30 AM) and was burning hot with a temp of 104. She did not sleep well and I took Tuesday off from work so I could stay home with her. By 10:00 AM her fever hadn’t subsided, so I took her to the clinic where she was diagnosed with strep throat.
Diagnosis: Strep Throat
They gave her antibiotics and had us alternate between giving her Tylenol and Motrin, which has brought the fever down, but she still didn’t sleep well on Tuesday night.
We were supposed to travel to the in-laws for Thanksgiving, and our plan was to leave Wednesday morning for the 9-hour drive. Unfortunately Olivia still wasn’t feeling 100% and we were very tired from being up with her the previous two nights. So we ended up staying home.
It’s unfortunate this happened. We were looking forward to spending the long weekend at the in-laws and seeing everyone. But I guess the strep throat didn’t know or care about our plans… ![]()
The Silver Lining
Fortunately we were able to run to the grocery store and buy a turkey and the fixings, so we’ll be enjoying a nice Thanksgiving diner here at home in a couple hours.
Also I’m happy to report that Olivia is rebounding nicely, and is back to her old self!
So Now What?
The good news is that we own a webcam and so do the in-laws. (We both own the Logitech QuickCam Communicate webcam, which works really well.)
So later this afternoon, we’re going to use Windows Live Messenger for a video call, so that the in-laws and the great-grandparents can talk to Olivia. It’s not the same as being there in person, but it’s the next best thing.
Well anyway, I hope your family is in better health than mine, and I wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving!
